CESVI presents the Global Hunger Index 2022 and the exhibition THE LAST DROP

Milano on 04/11/2022

GHI 2022

On Friday 4 November at 11 am, at the Civic Aquarium of Milan, the CESVI Foundation presents the Global Hunger Index 2022 – Global Hunger Index (GHI 2022) entitled Transformation of food systems and local governance.

This will, in fact, be the theme of the seventeenth edition of the GHI, one of the main international reports to measure world hunger, which in 2022 investigates governance and local food systems as active agents in the fight against food insecurity.

Faced with the spiral of crises that have recently overlapped, it is vitally important to increase resources to respond to ongoing emergencies and at the same time build more equitable, inclusive, sustainable and resilient food systems that can help avoid future crises.

In 2021, there were 828 million undernourished people. According to the estimates of the 2022 GHI, without radical change, neither the world as a whole nor approximately 46 countries will reach a low level of hunger by 2030.

It is essential to act now to rebuild food security on a new and lasting basis, otherwise there is a risk of catastrophic and systematic food crises in the future.

This year, the presentation of the Global Hunger Index is accompanied by the exhibition THE LAST DROP by photographer Fabrizio Spucches and curated by Nicolas Ballario: an emotional and direct story that brings out two of the greatest social problems of our days: war and famine.

Promoted by the Municipality of Milano Cultura and the Aquarium – Civic Hydrobiological Station, the exhibition features over 100 unpublished shots, made by Spucches for the CESVI Foundation in Ukraine and in the Horn of Africa.

The exhibition will be open from 5 November to 11 December 2022, from 10: 00-17: 30 from Tuesday to Sunday. The visit is included in the entrance ticket to the Aquarium.

Representatives of the Municipality of Milan and the departments relating to the themes of the event will attend the press conference on November 4, as well as Domenico Piraina, Director of the Civic Aquarium of Milan, Gloria Zavatta, President of CESVI, Caterina Sarfatti, Director of Inclusive Climate Action – C40 , Valeria Emmi, Networking & Advocacy Senior Specialist CESVI, Nicolas Bellario, Curator, Fabrizio Spucches, Photographer.
