Cesvi integrated approach to achieve food security involves the provision of water and sanitation services to communities with water scarcity or unsafe drinking water.
Clean water supply and its proper use and maintenance is fundamental to secure community’s food security. Identification of water sources during emergencies until permanent sources can be established is often the first step, followed by the disinfection of contaminated water sources and the reduction of sanitary risk at water points through direct involvement of the communities.
The installation of water storage tanks, rain water collection systems, distribution systems (if it is possiible solar powered) is used to guarantee constant safe water availability. In the medium term drilling boreholes, protecting springs, digging of hand dug wells followed when possible by establishing irrigation systems are the actions taken to secure long lasting solution for the communities food security needs.
