In emergency interventions distribution of food and survival aid is part of an integrated approach to overcome life threatening situations; that includes the provision of safe water and sanitation together with health and essential non-food items. This is later strengthened by programmes of livelihood and economic recovery (i.e. cash transfer) aimed mainly to increase individual purchasing power, restore productive assets (i.e. the provision of seeds, tools and animals, so that crops can be replanted and livestock restocked) support the resumption of market activities.
